Let us know you were here!

The fact that you are reading this means that the USS Spinax (SS 489) website has not yet been commissioned, and is still on the ways.

The Cold War Boats Association has an enormous task ahead - developing the websites for each of nearly 400 submarines that served during the Cold War. You can help us enormously by letting us know that you have seen this page, so we can prioritize which boat's website should be completed next.

As a side benefit, your comment will encourage others who visit here to do the same, which encourages us to complete this boat's website sooner rather than later.

All you have to do is leave a comment, by clicking the Comments link below. A simple comment like "I was here!" is sufficient, though we certainly want to hear any feedback you have.

Stumbled on this site while searching for Patrol Reports.

Jerry, any specific patrol reports you are looking for? Patrol reports that are available are mostly WWII and earlier. We do have ways of tracking those things down, especially if the boat also served in the Cold War.

Patrol Report
Yes, but probably not available. I was onboard USS Spinax (SS/SSR/AGSS-489) 1965 - 1969. We made 3 patrols, in the Gulf of Tonkin, operating with a Search and Rescue Task Unit, attached to Carrier Force. Some of us have been diagnosed with Agent Orange presumptive diseases, so we have filed for compensation, in accordance with the Procopio vs Wilke decision in reference to the Blue Water Navy. Deck Logs were not utilized to record the required daily/hourly positions, but were recorded in the Top Secret/Secret Patrol Reports, which to my knowledge, have not been declassified. These Patrol Reports are necessary to us, in order to verify we were operating in Territorial Waters, as defined in the Procopio vs Wilke decision.

Any assistance will be appreciated.

Respectfully,

Gerald (Jerry) M. Cartwright

Jerry, I do not currently have any Deck Logs for the USS SPINAX (SS/SSR/AGSS 489), however, if you examine the Deck Logs we do have, the lat/long for the boats location was, in fact, recorded in the Deck Logs at 0800, 1200, and 2000, when the boat was at sea, and when the mission was not location classified. So the Deck Logs may be helpful?

Here is an example from 1968 for the USS ASPRO.

If this might aid your case, I'll dig into USS SPINAX and see if i can come up with anything.
