SSN 592 History
Snook (SSN 592) experienced two separate flooding events during deep submergence testing in sea trials on 28 AUG 1961. One, from a ruptured grease line in the ER, caused a fire in shipyard temporay test equipment. The other, more serious was a 1.5 inch seawater cooling line pulled out of a brazed socket! This was before SUBSAFE, and an indicator of the pre-SUBSAFE vulnerabilities.
