The USS SNOOK (SSN 592) cuts a swath off the coast during a post-refit shakedown.

The USS SNOOK (SSN 592) website is back, and it's about time!

Dennis Donegan, an ELT on board the Snook back in 81-82, recently reached out to me at coldwarboats, org. He sent a handfull of photographs of the 592 that he said came from an old Snook website that was lost when the shipmate that managed the site shipped his oars.

He came to the right place - preserving the unclassified history of Cold War submarines and the men who crewed them is one of the main missions of the Cold War Boats Association at coldwarboats.org. We are currently in the process of creating websites for each of the 394 US submarines from the Cold War, and another few hundred for deep submergence, tenders, rescue vessels, shore commands, and others who supported the Cold War boats we served on.

I set about digging, and was able to recover old lists of shipmates for the SSN 592 from the expired Snook site buried in the internet archives. 445 names were recovered, many with email addresses, which is why you are getting this announcement and invitation.

You are invited to join us, no charge, by registering at coldwarboats.org, a submariners submarine site, by submariners, for submariners, and visit the growing SSN 592 sub-site.

  1. Simply go to coldwarboats.org and register by clicking on the link in the upper starboard corner of any page.
  2. Complete the registration form with your contact information and commands you served on. Once we process your registration, you will be able to access the Snook site, and all of the other Cold War boats and support commands.
  3. Your personal information - your email, street address, phone number, etc., remain private, and are not visible to anyone other than the administrators, and will never be sold, rented, traded, or otherwise made public.
  4. Once you get logged in, visit your user profile by clicking on your name in the Current Watchsection list in the starboard upper column, choose Edit Your Profile, and you can change your username and password on the Security tab.

I’ll be acting as the interim Site Lead for the 592. If you have photos, stories, or artifacts related to the 592, you can submit digital images or pdfs using the green Shipmate Galleries tabs on every menu on the site, or you can reach out to me until we get a permanent Site Lead volunteered! I'll make sure it gets on the new Snook site.

If you're planning a Snook reunion, again, let me know. The new Snook website has a reunion function already built in that will let you organize, promote, and keep track of attendees and events.

All Snook shipmates are invited to make the USS SNOOK (SSN 592) site on Cold War Boats their new on-line home.

Welcome Aboard!
