SSBN 644 Quarterdeck
LEWIS AND CLARK, ARRIVING!
Welcome aboard, shipmate!
This is your place, the USS LEWIS AND CLARK (SSBN 644). The old girl put in her time and she will never be forgotten. She pulled her weight and more, helping bring an end to the Cold War, and brought us home from every mission. It is for that, and a thousand other reasons, that we honor her memory.
This is a place to remember the boat, the exotic ports, the never-ending missions, and most of all, the iron men of the USS LEWIS AND CLARK.
FIRST TIME ABOARD THE SSBN 644?
Is this your first time aboard the USS LEWIS AND CLARK (SSBN 644) on the coldwarboats.org website?
If so, there are a few things you need to know.
First, you're dink. Get hot, get qualified, and don't expect to see sunshine until you pin your dolphins on. Sound familiar? Well, I'm not your sea-daddy, but there really are a few things you need to know.
One, you need to REGISTER - that tells us who you are, how you are connected with Cold War submarines, and a gives us a way to contact you. We have a routine newsletter that goes out once or twice a month, so make sure you are signed up for it when you go through the registration process. We in the submarine community are pretty fussy about posers and pretenders, submarine life being a pretty good filter for those sorts of things, so we ask you use your real name and contact information. If we decide you're not being straight up with us, your access will disappear faster than a water slug.
WELCOME ABOARD TOUR - SSBN 644
When you are ready, lets take a quick tour. Face forward, grab this handle, and walk down the ladder facing forward, not aft, and you'll find it easier to drop into the boat.
Sound familiar? Think back to your first trip down the ladder into your first boat. Definitely a new experience, and not unlike your first visit into this website.
Navigating the site is a bit easier than your first time on board, but feel free to take off and explore at any time. Nothing will bite you, and you're unlikely to break anything, so let's get on with it.
On the QUARTERDECK, you'll find the VISITOR'S LOG, a guestbook where you can comment on the site. Always check the P.O.D. for site information, current Association news, activities, reunion plans, and other items of general interest. You'll also be able to access recent FAMILYGRAMS, which are mailed to registered users periodically, and far more reliably than those we dreamed of receiving back on the boat.
