The site continues to evolve. We knew from the very beginning that this website would be a work in progress for much of its existence, and so it continues.
We have made some changes to make more of the site available to people who are not registered, to give them a little more introduction to our community before jumping on board. Of course, these changes are also visible once you have logged in.
You won't notice unless you look carefully before you log in, but changes include:
- The Homeport page has had a name change to Quarterdeck. This more accurately reflects place you start when you arrive on board, and also reflects the fact that we were never in our homeport anyway. At least when it was San Diego.
- Two of our menu items, Honors and Logroom, are available without logging in. Not all menu items on each of these menus show up until you log in, but guests can see some of the less 'sensitive' areas of the site.
- We have added some new items to each of those menus. Honors gets a tribute page to the Honorable Representative of Massachusetts, our namesake, William H. Bates, who was, BTW, my age when he passed away. That will get your attention.
- The Archives in the Logroom has expanded to accommodate history, making Archives a subset of the new History menu item, along with the Bates, Homeports, and Deployments.
- We have also made the Current Watchsection module visible even when you aren't logged in, so that you can see who's on-board without logging in. To maintain security outside the Registered Users area, your username is no longer displayed on the Current Watchsection list.
- We made the Watch, Quarter, and Station Bill visible without logging in, but that was mostly for cosmetic reasons.
Many things planned for the future. You can see we've already added the Ship of the Boat menu, under the Logroom. We are working on a 'qual card' for the website to walk you through each section and learn what it can do for you. We hope to add SOPs - site operating procedures to provide instructions for more complex tasks like posting photos. We also want to include CPs - casualty procedures, to help you out when things don't work right. Keep checking back - things are changing quickly.
More on REGROUPEX 09 to follow - things are starting to happen for our September reunion.
In the meantime, watch out for missing deckplates, pick up after your selves, and, don't forget - stores load at 1500!
