P.O.D.

It is with a heavy heart that I inform you of the passing of Julie, wife of Sean Gawne.

Sean was an ELT on board the USS WILLIAM H. BATES (SSN 680) between October of 1981 and September of 1985.

Julie was the mother of three (Joanne, Sean Jr., and Sarah) that fully supported Sean’s Navy career. She was proud that Sean served in submarines, and her devotion and hard work made it possible for him to serve on the USS Chicago (SSN 721) as well.

From her obituary…

Julieta "Julie" Morcada Gawne, 54, of Mission Viejo died at 10:38 pm, Saturday, July 22, 2017 at her home in Mission Viejo, California. After a long struggle with metastatic breast cancer, Julie passed away at home with her husband and children by her side.

Julie was born August 31, 1962 in Villaba, Leyte, Philippines to the late Silveno and Bonifacia Morcada. Julie married Sean M. Gawne on March 17, 1984 and he survives. She graduated from Holy Child High School in Villaba, Leyte before meeting Sean in the Philippines while he was serving in the U.S. Navy. They were married in San Diego, California and she fell in love with California. Julie was a resident of Mission Viejo since 1994 and previously lived in San Diego and San Clemente, California and recently in Raleigh, NC and Surprise, AZ.

Julie loved to garden, and was proud of the many flowers and fruits trees she planted over the years. She delighted in playing cards and board games with her family and friends. Julie loved to travel with the family and was able to visit 47 states as well as Canada and Mexico. She visited many national parks and enjoyed hiking, fishing and horseback riding. Julie was an excellent cook and enjoyed cooking traditional Filipino cuisine as well as American favorites. After the children went to school she went to work as a nursing assistant for several years. She had a pure heart and loved to help small children, elderly people, and all those in need. Her faith was strong and we are confident that Jesus prepared a room for her in His Father's house.

Also surviving are her mother Bonifacia Morcada of Villaba, Leyte, two daughters Joanne (Christopher) Curd of Lake Forest and Sarah Gawne of Mission Viejo, one son Sean Gawne II of Mission Viejo, two brothers Restituto and Pedrito Morcada of Villaba, and two sisters Veronica Labastida and Imelda Morcada of Villaba, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. Julie's father Silveno and one sister Rosalia Morcada preceded her in death.

The visitation is from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at the O'Connor Mortuary at 25301 Alicia Parkway, Laguna Hills, CA. The funeral service will follow at 10:30 am on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at Saint Kilian's Catholic Church, 26872 Estanciero Dr, Mission Viejo, CA. The burial will be at Holy Sepulcher Catholic Cemetery, 7845 E Santiago Canyon Rd, Orange, CA.
