"EM2 Ross died in August 1992,  we were on Westpac 92. MM2 Troy Martin found him hung from the door in the barracks (suicide).

The SSDI lists only one Brian Ross who died in 1992.

Brian W. Ross was born on April 8, 1968 and died November 30, 1992.

His Soc. Sec. number was issued in South Carolina, so that's probably one state he was raised in, if that helps identify him."

Although I did not know EM2 (SS) Brian Ross as well as others, I recall him being a very meticulous sailor who kept the logs well supplied for Engineering as the Logroom Yeoman. I recall standing watch with him in port, relieving him as SEO/SRO several times. He was reserved, and mostly kept to himself, it was sad to lose him to the rigors of life that brought him down, I was flabbergasted to hear what had happened while underway, and have shared his legacy with my family and friends about how real depression is, and how it can impact anyone, with little to no warning. I took over logroom yeoman when he passed away, and found it well kept and organized. Fair winds and following seas Brian.

EM2(SS) Brian Ross passed away late in 1992 while we were on deployment. He was in Pearl Harbor at the time on augment and couldn't come back to the boat. He did end up hanging himself. The crew was notified of his death as we left Hong Kong on our way back home. We had a memorial for him in Pearl about a week before Christmas.

Our shipmate has passed on before us.

Whether by enemy action, the remorseless sea, or the ravages of time and age,
we must accept that God has called you to where we cannot yet follow.

We commend your body to the deep, and your soul to God Almighty.

May God grant you fair winds and following seas.

Godspeed, shipmate.

We will miss you...

"All mankind is of one author, and is one volume; when one man dies, one chapter is not torn out of the book, but translated into a better language; and every chapter must be so translated. God employs several translators; some pieces are translated by age, some by sickness, some by war, some by justice; but God's hand is in every translation, and his hand shall bind up all our scattered leaves again for that library where every book shall lie open to one another...

"No man is an island, entire of itself, every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main.

"Any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind; and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee."
