P.O.D.
It’s only been a short five days since the Name-A-Sailor made it’s big debut. Since then we have added two images to the new Name-A-Sailor menu option (under Upscope) and you have been quick to demonstrate the power of all of us working together. Clearly demonstrating that our collective memories are better than any one of ours, the Name-A-Sailor tab (on the right hand side of your browser window on any ssn-680.org web page after you have logged in) has been used multiple times by shipmates eager to identify faces in images and preserve them on the site.

02 1990 psns numberedThe image 1990 - PSNS Crew Photo Name-A-Sailor (courtesy of Brad Allen) was taken in the dry dock at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard somewhere in or around 1990, and shows seventy-three shipmates standing under the bow of the Bates, providing a classic opportunity for those who served during that time period to help identify shipmates.

The same goes for 1972 - Pascagoula Awards Ceremony Name-A-Sailor (courtesy of Michael Pitcock) was taken sometime after the U.S.S Redfish became the U.S.S William H. Bates and before the Bates left the shipyard. In the courtyard at Blue Lake Manor, an awards ceremony is being held with at least twenty-two faces visible, giving us another chance to match names to faces before our memories go completely!

01 1990 psns numberedSo log into the site, and take a few minutes at Upscope >> Name-A-Sailor to view these two great photos, and put your memory to the test. If you recognize any faces, click the Name-A-Sailor pop-up tab on the right edge of your browser window, and jot down what you know. Clicking Submit will send the info to your dedicated team of website managers, and we’ll update the photo information with the names you provide.

There is not a moment to lose! Capture history before we became part of it!
