P.O.D.

If you haven't been on the site for a while, you may not have noticed the addition of the Tracking Party.

Quarters >> Tracking Party is simply a map based system for locating shipmates that are geographically close to you.

Ever wonder which of your shipmates lived close by? Ever wonder who might be close enough to arrange small get-togethers, see a ball game, have lunch, raise a glass together? The Tracking Party is intended to make that easier.

To use the Tracking Party.

Mouse over the marker to see the name of the shipmate at that location. Click the marker to see their photo, city and state, and to get driving directions.

If your marker is not on the map, there is something you need to do. ACTION IS REQUIRED!

1.  Go to your User Profile by clicking on your name in Current Watchsection.

2.  Choose Edit >> Update Profile.

3.  On the Contact Info tab, make sure your address, city, state, zip, and country are complete and accurate. Your actual address will not be displayed - only your city and state.

4.  Click Update. This is all you have to do.

The system will automatically generate a geocode for your location (you can check this in your User Profile on the Geocode tab).

You will not appear on the map until an administrator or moderator clicks on the Update Tracking Party link in the Watch, Quarter, and Station Bill menu. I try to do that every time I'm on the site, which is several times a day, so it shouldn't be long until you appear. If you get tired of waiting, email the Site Administrator and let me know so I can update the Tracking Party.

If your shipmate does not appear on the map, it is because they have not yet updated their User Profiles. Each user must update their user profile before they will appear on the map. Send your dink shipmate an email and tell him to get hot, and get qualified!

Once everyone has updated their profiles, you will be able to tell who is nearby at a glance, and do all the local coordinating you want.

Share the good stuff, shipmate!
